I Became interested in photography seriously at the age of 17 as I was serving an apprenticeship to stereotyping – an essential part of letterpress printing.
While in school I was reasonably good at art and I believe this is what drew me into photography. Life got in the way of me following photography but in 1981 I joined the Photographic Society of Ireland using a Pentax Spotmatic S1A. I was to be seen anywhere and everywhere with my camera. Unlike others, I did not have a preference for a particular genre.
When I got married and moved to the West of Ireland I found it difficult to join a photography club so continued on my own until 7 years ago. I talked two other people to join with me to form Acorn Photographic Society – the first photography club in our local town.
This gave me a renewed interest in taking photos and sharing the knowledge I had gained. I am a self-taught photographer and nothing gives me more joy than talking about and sharing all things photographic.
